Uttwiler Spatlauber Apple Fruit Stem Cell Culture Extract (INCI: Malus Domestica Fruit Stem Cell Culture Extract)

The Uttwiler Spätlauber apple is a very rare variety of apple tree that is well known in Switzerland, where it is native to, for its exceptional longevity when stored for extended periods of time (four months from harvest date, long after other apples have deteriorated). The Uttwiler Spätlauber apple was first recorded in the 18th century in the canton Thurgau, in northern Switzerland, and has since survived in a few remaining trees, having not been widely cultivated because of its sour taste.

Through a novel extraction process the stem cells of the fruit of this true are able to be cultured with depletion of the endangered tree itself. The extract of this stem cell culture is captured in a liposomal delivery system and is incorporated into skincare formulations to impart longevity to skin cells. In vitro experiments have demonstrated a protective effect on human skin cells at the base of the epidermis (our own skin stem cells that continually renew the surface epidermal layer). Other studies have demonstrated that the Uttwiler Spätlauber apple fruit stem cell culture extract imparts an age-delaying effect on the skin as observed through measurable anti-wrinkle results, especially around the eye area.
