Decyl Glucoside
Decyl glucoside is a very mild, non-ionic surfactant used in natural cleansers, especially those meant for sensitive skin. It is often used in baby shampoos and cleansing products because it is so gentle to the skin and eyes. It is derived from glucose (extracted from a variety of plants, typically corn) with the fatty alcohol, decanol (which also is from a variety of plants, typically coconuts). It works well on those with dry skin because it provides foaming action to the product without stripping the epidermis of hydration or disrupting pH balance. It is a natural, environmentally friendly alternative to much harsher surfactants like sodium laurel sulfate, sodium laureth sulfate, and other potentially irritating, synthetic cleansers.
