Grape Seed Extract (INCI: Vitis vinifera Seed Extract)
The extract of red grape seeds contains a concentration of vitamin E, flavonoid antioxidants, linoleic acid, resveratrol, and proanthocyanidins (OPCs) antioxidants. Systemically the oral consumption of grape seed extract has been linked to a reduction in high blood pressure, a reduction of high cholesterol, and a the limiting of lipid oxidation by phenolic compounds to reduce platelet aggregation that leads to heart disease.
In the skin, the extract of grape seed has been shown to impart of wide range of anti-aging benefits. Most notably it’s broad spectrum of phytonutrients act as potent antioxidants that studies have proven to be 50-times more effective than vitamin E alone, and 20-times more effective than vitamin C in scavenging for free radicals. It also has soothing and reparative properties through its ability to strengthen capillaries, reduce inflammation, and strengthen skin’s defenses against UVB. Red grapes also contain the polyphenol resveratrol, which is not only a potent antioxidant but has been implicated in several studies as activating longevity genes within cells that extend healthy cell life.
